It seems that the speed is not reporting correctly - in any way, shape or form!
At the moment as this speed is directly accessed from the corelocation api - one of the new features in 2.2 I'm going to have to do some investigation to see what I can find and report it as a bug!
Once sorted I will post a new update - thanks to Paul for the comment.

I have taken a look at the app and came up with some features that would be a major improvement to this app.
To many to post them all here (i could email them if that would be convenient?)
The most interesting feature in my opinion would be adding a conversion field to other coordinate systems (GRID references), for instance MGRS. so walkers could use their iPhone next to a regular map of the area.
