All - please note that it would seem, for some reason I am yet to fathom, that you need to delete the version on your itunes and re-download(for free as you have already paid) version 2 - this has worked for one person and I recommend trying it. It makes me think that the problem is something to do with the Apple update process rather than the app - which I have running fine on my iphone.
Please do feedback comments.
Update - to delete the application - go into the applications section on itune - select the application and on a Mac press the backspace button and then re-download from itunes.
Please note that there have been a number of reports on Apple's Developer website that something similar has been happening to lots of other applications.

How do I 'delete' the app from iTunes?
Redownloading solved my V2 crashes. Works fine now.
